Cowart's Common Room
Little Prince Update

You know that bit in Hank the Sank when at Agincourt King Henry is chiding Westmoreland for whinging 'would we had but one 10,000 of those men in England that do no work today.' and Henry says 'nay good coz! Wish not one man more. Methinks I would not lose so great an honour as one man more man would share from me. For the best hope I have.' Or anyway words to that effect.

Well, I am saying if only we had had one man more last night I wouldn't have minded how much honour I shared. To wit someone to do the lights so that I could have been backstage orchestrating proceedings.

For as it was the experienced stage manager had to cry off last minute with 'family problems' and her deputy - someone who just came along to CADS a week ago to see what we were about but who had never done any drama work before - had to take over without really knowing what was happening. For a beginner he did a most tremendous job. But inevitably there were slip-ups like random curtain openings which were a source of great hilarity to the audience.

But it wasn't all down to him for with the distractions I missed a couple of vital blackouts on the lights and then blacked out the backstage lights so that at one point the crew were trying to set the stage in the dark. The random bumps and hushed expletives thus providing even yet more amusement to the befuddled audience.

Still the real night is tonight and we shall be a lot better. (I hope). The actors were terrific. The effects marvellous. Rosie's Baobab stole the show. Our performance may be graced by the French Honorary Consul and the theatre, we are promised, will be 'plein comme un oeuf' (full as an egg).

Thanks so much for all your good wishes. But if you would be so kind as to send along a few Purple Vibes about 8 o'clock this evening, I am sure they would be very welcome. A hug to a rather battered director wouldn't come amiss either.

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar I am so sorry to have missed such hilarity, Fennie, but I have enjoyed reading your account of it.
It was ever thus with amateur drama - the cock-ups are the bits you remember in the future - the high drama sinks without trace. This production will run and run - in the bar at any rate.
Sending you all the purple vibes necessary to ensure a near perfect performance, a wave of my magic wand to expand the theatre and, of course, a big hug to give you courage.

P.S. This is what multi-tasking is all about. Keep your balls in the air!

Preseli Mags's Avatar Hug for now and vibes for later. It sounds like a great show and I bet the audience loved it. I've only done theatre from the point of view of the audience and I've always loved the non-scripted bits. Will there be pictures? I think we all need to see Rosie's Baobab!

Mountainear's Avatar Well done - at least you got to the end! Sounds as if you had the audience on your side, which is what counts.

Do hope tonight is less stressful. Break that other leg.
