Cowart's Common Room
The Little Prince: First Night

Uploaded Image
HELPPPPPP! It's the first night of 'The Little Prince' tonight - the 'show what I wrote' - with a little help from Saint-Exupéry obviously. Conceived of as just a little 'entertainment' it has turned into a full blown show. We are so under-rehearsed and I'm not sure how we shall get through it. We have a cast of 8 - aged between 18 and 80 - (playing 16 characters) plus a singer and a puppet. There are 10 scenes which included volcanoes, baobabs, sausages, flowers, wells, stars and a prince ascending vertically into space. We have all sorts of music and finish with the whole company dancing the can-can. Whatever else: this is a loud show. No photographs yet but I am going to take some tonight.

Re:
Arosebyanyothername's Avatar And I am going to miss it. The first time I have missed a show for decades. Still I did dress the Little Prince, made a boabab tree and sorted the programme.

Break lots of legs, Fennie, but no more heads!

Re:
Ivy's Avatar Is break a leg what you say to actors before their performance?

Posted by: Ivy on 13th May 2010 at 08:15PM

Re:
Arosebyanyothername's Avatar Yes. Theatrical types are well-known for their belief in superstitions, or at least for their willingness to make a show of pretending to believe them. The term 'break a leg' appears to come from the belief that one ought not to utter the words 'good luck' to an actor. By wishing someone bad luck, it is supposed that the opposite will occur. Other superstitions are that it is bad luck to whistle in a theatre, to say the final line of a play during dress rehearsal, or to say the name of 'the Scottish Play' in a theatre's green room.

Re:
Well, break a leg indeed. You mentioned all kinds of creatures, but what about the Fox? Can't have The Little Prince without the dear Fox. It would be like bread without butter, salt without pepper, Cameron without Clegg.

We'll eagerly await the review.

Frances's Avatar Well, Fennie, here I am ... you know the ticket holder who arrives a bit into the first act? Well, I realize I have gotten here after your receiving all sorts of applause.

Excuse...I was writing my comment about the wasp next and its macro implications.

How I would love some day to see one of these theatre productions. Hope my wish will come true.

PLease do post more about the Petit Prince.
