Cowart's Common Room

Hello Owls,

My apologies for not making it to the perch last night, severe Vertigo and I had not even touched a drop.!Smile

The weather has got much colder, even so lovely to see the pink and white blossom on the tree's at the moment, a blush of colour before it disappears until next spring.

Cup of strong tea at the ready, so just going to take a tour, before lamps out later.

If you can't sleep and there are others on line then have a natter here.

Night Night, & Sweet Dreams.

Frances's Avatar Good evening to you, Camilla, It is grand to see you here again. Vertigo is a very scary condition. Hoping that you will be free of it for the foreseeable future.

So cold here in New York, yesterday and today. The fierce wind continues its blowing. I have got friends you I hope are now on their flight to Venice. Hoping the wind is with them, and keeps the ash away.

Day off for me today, filled with errands and sporadic monitoring of various shop matters. Somehow the day seemed to flash past.

See you soon. xo

Ivy's Avatar Good evening or better good morning to you owls. I am a rare guest but is there a little space left on the perch for me? I just started a heavy cold that keeps me awake. As hubby has to get up in four hours I thought I might go downstairs and see whether there was something new on here and sip some herbal infusion. I begin to understand why my children cried as babies when they started a cold. This blocked nose feels as if my head is about to explode.
Ivy was thrilled to see me and thought we could go out together. As she has the irritating habit of barking, when let out alone in the dark I had to accompany her but the cold night air was quite nice for the head, to be honest

Camilla's Avatar Hello Frances and Ivy.!

Thank you, yes Vertigo not nice, I have had it on and off for years now, just don't know when they are going to appear, felt like I was on ship in a stormy sea.!

The weather has changed too here Frances, very cold as in NY. Sending my good luck wishes for your friends on their way to Venice and weather is kind to them. Venice.......... ah how wonderful.!

Pleased to hear you had a day free from the shop Frances, I know how those free hours though can go by too quickly as one would hope not to.

Ivy's Avatar Frances Northern Italy's airports were closed over the weekend not sure if they still are. Venice is so beautiful have been there several times and would go again any time.
Here it is far too cold too (hence my cold) but no wind. annoying for my OH as he was to go sailing over the weekend but they didn't even get the boat ready, because there wasn't even a light breeze.

Frances's Avatar Hello Ivy, it's grand to have you join us on the perch. Welcome to you, new owl!

Also do hope that you will be able to shed that cold pretty soon.

Camilla's Avatar Hello Ivy,

Grand to see you on the perch, but so sorry to hear you are suffering from a dreaded cold. Honey is a good remedy for colds I usually mix it into hot lemon drink. Vic is good too for nasal, hope you soon will be feeling much better Ivy.

My dog Daisy often asks me to let her outside at night while I am on this perch for her wee wee's,. She sleeps on the bottom of my bed with her own pillow.Rolling Eyes

Frances's Avatar Hello again, Ivy. Yes, my friends were monitoring the airport situation all weekend, and trying to decide if their trip would still be on.

As of this afternoon, they had packed their bags, called the car service to take them to JFK airport, and were relying on their airline's official word that flights were going forward ... well, it would not be so great if the flights were going backwards, would it?

The wind is still howling outside this apartment, and the radiators are quiet. I have got on one of my favorite merino wool sweaters for a strange May layering. xo

Ivy's Avatar Thanks ladies I have a special herbal tea waiting to cool to drinking temperature by my side now. Frances I just checked if your friends ar travelling from NY the should get to Venice without delay in about 8 hours time if however they come from Philadelphia they will be arriving three hours late

Ivy's Avatar Frances I am still wearing my woollen coat over the nighty after I took the dog outside. Normally you'd expect to be able to go outside just in your PJ's even at night at this time of the year. I wonder is it the volcanic ash that cools us all down?

Posted by: Ivy on 11th May 2010 at 01:48AM

Frances's Avatar Thank you, Ivy. My buddies' flight was from JFK airport here in NY, so soon they will be seeing canals and having gelato.

Yes, it could be the ash that is setting up the strange temps. I remember "our" Pondside writing about strong storms in her area on the west coast of Canada about a week ago ... so that front has still got the force with it.

Camilla, do you still need to use the woodburner?

Posted by: Frances on 11th May 2010 at 02:00AM

Camilla's Avatar Sorry to have missed you Ivy, was just taking a tour of the site. Hope you will be able to get back to bed later and catch up on your sleep and cold eases for you, love herbal tea too.

Posted by: Camilla on 11th May 2010 at 02:03AM

Camilla's Avatar Love the sound of those Merino sweaters....yes Frances, still lighting the woodburner, it can get too hot in the room though so have to turn the air-vents to it off so it does not roar the heat too much. Good thing about woodburners when cold is that they still stay alight by morning.

I would love to visit Venice, soo romantic.......... dream of sitting on a gondola sipping a bellini, and well.......... shall say no more!Wink

Frances's Avatar Camilla, guess it is about time for the call of the marvelous Land of Nod.

Wish me luck for tomorrow. I'll send you a pm.

Nite, nite, xo

Camilla's Avatar I have PM you Frances, thank you.

Ivy's Avatar Just decided to take a day off today, so will be able to sleep during the day (I hope). I think it is unfair on my colleagues if I went into work to just spread about the germs before two potentially long weekends . Luckily I got right to the bottom of that paper stack on my desk before I left last night so I am not feeling too guilty. As I am only working Mondays and Tuesdays I should be okay next time I am due back at the office.

Posted by: Ivy on 11th May 2010 at 02:14AM

Camilla's Avatar Would love to stay longer on the perch, but I am off to land of nod.......2.10am here, morning has broken. Oh yes, the very best of luck for tomorrow Frances, shall be thinking of you.

See you are here Ivy, hope you feel a little better soon, colds are horrid. Hope you can join us on the perch again tomorrow night if you are up with Ivy.

Nighty Night Frances and Ivy, and to all the owls hopping on th perch later.

Sweetest of dreams to you, see you tomorrow.
