Cowart's Common Room

Today is Sunday, May 9, 2010.

This, being the second Sunday in May, is considered (in many places) "Mothers' Day"; a time to recall and give thanks for our mothers the ones who gave us life.

Beyond that, Bear, between medications, wishes you a blessed/wonderful Sunday, and weekend.

There is a prayer that seems appropriate (emphasis on "seems"):

As on the first day you began the work of creating us,
As on a first day you raised your Son from the dead;
On this first day, good Lord, freshen and remake us:
and as this week is new, let our lives begin again
because of Jesus who shows us your loving power.

I'm not expecting you to agree with the wording of that (Christian) prayer, but it seems to the Bear that there is some wisdom in this.

Sunday, being the nominal first day of our week, Bear wishes us to consider the order and the ardor of our existence, of our life, which our mothers have given us.

Hope you have a grand day.

Withy Brook's Avatar I join you in that prayer, Bear. Am shortly off to join others in a Holy Communion Service.
It is not Mother's Day here - that happened last month, though I daresay the idea came from over the Pond, like so many things! Here it is Rogation Sunday, when we pray for the fields and crops and stock. I will post about our Rogation Sunday walk etc later on.

CalicoKate's Avatar Bear, You gave me a bit of a jolt there saying it was Mothers Day. Had to think hard that we had had it already and that my mother had been duly attended to, as she isn't on my list of things to do today!!

Tiggywinkle's Avatar I like that snappy little prayer, Bear. Thank you for reminding me of mothers day. I must ring Palomina in Australia to see how her day went. I'm not familiar with Rogation Sunday, Withy. What a lovely idea, and makes sense considering we give thanks at harvest time. Looking forward to reading your later post.

Westerwitch's Avatar Thank you Bear . . .

Now Bear where's the tea and bikkies then.

Fairy Nuff's Avatar I think it's a lovely prayer Bear...and it's sentiments could be translated into any faith.
My mother doesn't hold with mothers day, she rightly reckons we should appreciate each other every day...I certainly appreciate her when she looks after the shop on mondays to give us a day off during the summer, especially as she's 82.

OOPS Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Bear forgot to leave tea and bikkies out. Knew there was something not quite right earlier this morning.

For those who are celebrating it, Happy Mothers Day.
