Cowart's Common Room
Yet more tulips

Doing my garden design course has meant some changes to those parts of the garden that never quite worked... yesterday's job was moving hundreds of tulips from the old herb garden to the wide borders. Here they are looking beautiful in a scratty old wheelbarrow - and in the comments you can see them in their new homes.

Salle de Bain's Avatar Cor Kitty...that is a fab (and very long) border! Very neat, and not a weed in sight...puts me to shame Embarassed.

I never realised that tulips could be moved like that when in flower.

Preseli Mags's Avatar That's fabulous! I just switched on the computer to google 'how to move tulips', but popped into the Coo first - and my question is answered! Dig 'em up now and replant. Thanks KittyB!

KittyB's Avatar Well, I don't know whether you're actually meant to move tulips when they're in flower, I think the theory is more wait until they've flowered and stored some energy for next year then lift and store them, replanting in the Autumn. However, that's just not going to happen around here so we thought we'd just have a go at moving them now, I don't suppose we'll know whether or not it's successful until next Spring.

Dancing Dog's Avatar What a glorious garden.

I should definitely have googled "moving tulips" as I dug a new border on Sunday (all 14' of it, nothing a spectacular as yours Kitty) and moved a small bunch of tulips, but when I dug them up all I got was a bunch of flowers on stalks, no bulbs!! I do not have a green thumb, I lack the patience, I want it all looking lovely NOW! Ho Hum.

Westerwitch's Avatar Bah - Tulip envy . . . no tulips here although the daffs are out . . . might have to confiscate your entire garden Twisted Evil

KittyB's Avatar Thought you might be interested in seeing the same border two years ago... it doesn't take long to look like it's been there forever.
