Felt - can you wash it?

I have an old Paddington's coat just come out of the loft - it's not too bad but needs cleaning in places. I presume I can't wash it - any ideas how to clean? Thanks.

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar A light brushing?

I have a Paddington too - about 30 years old. He is rather dusty and his coat has moth holes. Some time ago I made him a new felt hat. He now needs a complete new wardrobe except for his boots. And probably a wash and brush up too.

Faith's Avatar You can get new items of clothing for Paddington from the official site or vintage from ebay, Rosie.

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar Thank you, Faith. I have just checked that out. I may get him a new coat for Christmas.

Ivy's Avatar is it a woollen felt or does it feel rather "plasticy" if it is wool ther eis no reason why you should not be able to HAND wash it with a liquid detergent and just a little soft squeeze.

Faith's Avatar I might try that Ivy, thanks. I could probably just wash the bad part.

Blackbird's Avatar Faith, I would wash the whole little garment rather than just spot wash. If you do it gently and don't stretch or wring it- it should be fine.

Felt is very washable especially if it's wool- you just have to be careful not to continue the felting process.
