Cowart's Common Room
Football blues....

The scene in our sitting room last night:

Fire blazing in the grate...deB sat in his reclining armchair watching the footy...me reading a book. I don't really watch football, but last night was Ireland v France...so the book was put to one side in favour of the TV on several occasions.

All was well in the world, and I was just settling back into a new chapter when all hell let loose. The lever on the chair is almost pulled off as deB violently jettisons himself into an upright position. Next he's up on his feet shouting and gesticulating at the TV. Then the pacing starts, and the face on him would have been enough to turn the milk sour. This normally quiet and retiring man has changed beyond all recognition....

The reason? See for yourself:-

Football does strange things to men...Gawd, it was like an evening with Jeckyll & HydeLaughing

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Thankfully Him Outdoors is not much of a sports fan and although he's highly into motor sports he'd rather be driving one than watching them.
I would never watch football on TV but funnily enough I've been to quite a few big semi-finals etc and love to watch it live from the stands...a different ball game one might say!

We had a quiet, laid back, Islander, a retired forrester live next door who on a saturday afternoon would be glued to the wrestling, shouting and gesticulating at the TV just as you describe...it was worth going to visit his wife then just for the pure entertainment value.

Re:
Ah , this sounds so familiar Salle, the iGit also shouts at the TV when the footy is on, and frequently rants for hours after too, if his team has been especially bad, and at the moment they are BAD.

Re:
Irish Eyes's Avatar I'm not surprised he's changed beyond recognition Salle...I have absolutely NO interest in football, but this is beyond belief and FIFA owe us a replay...thought they were all about putting in good manners in the game and no diving and no this and that...oh God! don't get me started...am ABSOLUTELY BLURRY FUMING!!!!!!!:-Mad
