Cowart's Common Room

Hello to any owls that may still be awake.

I have been busily sorting through photo's and documents, was sent them by mail from my late father's only surviving brother, some good memories, some not so good.

Just off to make a cuppa, see you later owly's.!

If you can't sleep and there are others on line then have a natter here.

Night Night, & Sweet Dreams.

Frances's Avatar Good evening to you, Camilla.

I know what you mean about going through old photos and papers, and having all sorts of emotions arise. I hope that most of yours today were positive.

I had a fine day, even if the sky was mostly grey.

More early morning work on my Christmas cards, then off to meet a friend to see some galleries and have a delicious lunch. We also took a walk along the so-called High Line, elevated former train track that is now a urban garden/walk way. I took some photos and may get round to posting a blog to show how this space is evolving with the change of seasons.

Tomorrow I will have a treat, as I am to meet up with one of our fellow bloggers who is visiting NYC. Won't say more now.

As I look at the various areas of the site tonight, I am returning to my months' old knitting project ... the socks.

Camilla's Avatar As to those papers Frances, I did discover that I had a long lost Aunt who lived in Dallas Texas....... long story, but she apparantly married an American GI just after the war.

Frances's Avatar Today was our Veterans' Day holiday, and of course, there were various ceremonies around the country, and a parade here in NYC.

All the same, for many it is now just a day off from work. An occasion for coat sales at the shops. Not as much attention to the reason for the holiday as one sees on Remembrance Sunday in the UK.

And the President is now making his decision on just how many additional troops to send to Afghanistan. And the media and various governmental departmants are busy investigating last week's mass shooting in Texas, trying to determine why the Army major decided on his actions.

As you say about looking at those photos, Camilla, there is much to consider today.

Camilla's Avatar Hello Puffin.!

Hope all is well with you, have you brought the plants in for the winter period?

Puffin's Avatar Hi Frances,
I see you are tackling the socks again.
I can't be of help here,as I have never tried socks.
I was born left handed, but made to to learn writing with my right hand.
Bob says I hang up the phone backwards, also open doors left
handed. We can't row together--He is very right handed.
so who is right.I can use both hands for many things, but some feel unnatural. Some of my best friends are left handed.
I think we have a special gift.

Puffin's Avatar You are right Frances-seems a lot of people here look at our holiday,as just another excuse to shop.

Puffin's Avatar I reread the Owl's postings from last night and saw you all had come by really late--Rob-bear came by about 4 + a.m. your time.
I should have come back, but thought you'd all be asleep by then.
I have checked back in the past and you were all gone.
Great time to be in N.Y. Frances and so much fun with a good friend to visit with too.

Puffin's Avatar Hello Camilla,
Yes the last of my house plants are safely in,but some looked happier outside.
Perhaps too much rain.
Not enough sun and the out side is often warmer this time of year.

Puffin's Avatar Hi Rob-bear,If you come by later, sorry to have missed you last night-this time thing keeps us all mixed up,My,but you were late--4 + a.m. your time ???

Puffin's Avatar Hi Tiggy,
I see you peeking in.
I just seem to stop by when everyone has gone.
Thanks for keeping me company'
I am going to take a walk about.

Frances's Avatar Not gone yet, Puffin!

I do think that we left-handed folks learn lots about how to adjust to circumstances beyond our control. And all those adjustments do not take place during childhood.

Yes, I do hope that Rob-bear's feeling better, and that those pups are bringing joy, not just exhaustion.

Camilla's Avatar We had a church service here for Veteran's Day, and remembering those who served and gave their lives for us.

So sad about the mass shooting in Texas, it has been said that the Major had refused to go to Afghanistan, nevertheless cannot understand his reasons for the shootings.

Yes Frances, I was a tad emotional in seeing the pics too, but my, my father was a suave tall good looking young man.

Camilla's Avatar My Geraniums have been moved into the greenhouse now as so wet and cold some days and frosty mornings too Puffin.

Yes, hope the Bear is resting well and that Pups are doing alright. We all miss you dear Bear.!

I am left handed too.!

The connection on my server here is being very slow at the moment, time for me to turn out the lamps anyhow, so I will bid all owls night night, sweet dreams, and see you tomorrow.

Sorry to have missed you Tiggy.

Nighty Night Frances and Puffin.

Frances's Avatar Camilla, it is so late over there in the UK now, even a true owl like you might hear the call of the land of nod.

Bet that you will have some dreams about those photos and various memories.

I am also going to depart now, start to wind down, so I will have many hours of rest. Another vacation treat!

Nite nite, xo

See you soon again--we hope--

Did somebody say "Bear"? Here I am; large as life and twice as crazy.

Bear has just arrived on the scene, will have a quick look about, then back to the Perch (if I can climb that high tonight).

OH DRAT Exclamation Exclamation Everyone else has taken off. Grr@%#$^*&@rr. How can I ever get to visit with any of you if you go to bed so early!

It's just 9:45 (or so) in Bearland. Sadie pup is trying to chew up some of the carpet and pull open file drawers, and my back is in a less-than-desirable condition. Grr@%#$^*&@rr again.

Speaking of pictures, Camilla, I have a giant box of pictures sitting under my desk, just begging to be cleaned out. I have a box full of unread, partly-read, and ready-for-clipping-and-filing magazines under the other side of the desk, just begging for review. I have piles of files and notebooks on top of my desk just begging for attention of various sorts. Am I making any progress? Are Bears afraid of squirrels? Sigh. Sad

Well, seeing as you are all asleep (or asleep at the switch, but I very much suspect the former), I'll have another quick check. Tiddles and clock are as they should be. I'll just pad, pad, pad out of here on my big Bear paws.

Sleep well, good Owls.
