Cowart's Common Room
Back home - finally!

Hello everyone.
Thank you so much for all the good wishes and rubber mallets - it was an eventful day, to say the least!

The procedure itself was very much better than I imagined (once the local anaesthetic injections had gone in - they hurt like hell!) and I didn't actually know when the biopsy needle went in as all I could feel was a tiny bit of pushing. They had to keep lining my lung up in the CT scanner and put markers on my back, so the constant tapping and touching disguised the insertion - he's now my favourite doctor! I asked not to know when and what they were doing (am a total wuss) after the anaesthetic had gone in so ignorance is truly bliss.

The bad bit. I'm afraid I suffered a pneumothorax afterwards and a partially collapsed lung (I was warned I was high risk for this) so had to stay in on oxygen overnight and on standby for a chest drain. Poor Jimmy had to do the M&S dash for knickers and PJ's, plus toiletries, then had to drive all the way home. Fortunately, this morning's X-ray showed the pneumothorax had reduced so they've let me home with strict instructions to go straight to hospital if I get increased pain or breathlessness. I have to go back next Tuesday for the biopsy results, so am on the final leg of this journey now.

We're both exhausted and I have a hot bath waiting so will say night, night and thanks once again for all the wonderful support.

Much love, Carmen.xx
