Cowart's Common Room
I CAN'T SLEEP CHAT POST

Hello to all the Owls,

Programme on BBC2 this evening THE CULTURE SHOW shown at 7PM which I enjoyed and some readings of Keats by the poet Andrew Motion. Think the early evening slot for this though should have been much later in the evening.

Well there were no loud bangs from fireworks nearby here tonight so Daisy is sleeping soundly at the moment, not sure if there will be perhaps more firework displays this Saturday instead.

Just going to take a quick tour before lamps out, I have an early start later this morning on my rounds.

If you can't sleep and there are others on line then have a natter here.

Night Night, & Sweet Dreams.

Re:
Tiggywinkle's Avatar Had a big cook-in to-day to have basic dishes in the freezer when the Aussies arrive. Special offer on meat of 50% off at my local
Butchers. Made trays of meat sauce and meat balls that can be made into different dishes. Lovely leg of lamb for New Year's Eve, & 40 chicken breasts to do favourite chicken dishes. Spent far too much time cooking the last time they were home. So I will plan my menus this time. Will go to the fish market tomorrow. It is so cold here to-day, so I'm off to bed with my hot whiskey and hot water bottle, to read a few chapters of my book. Enjoy your chat and Hello to whoever lands on the perch.

Re:
Bear wanders in and is immediately concerned that other Owls are disappearing at a rate far too fast. Shocked First Camilla. Then Tiggy. OH dearExclamationExclamation This is not good.

Sadie and I walked by the river today, and were startled by a big flock of ducks (Scaup, I think) which arose from the water as we passed them. Beautiful. But as usual, no camera.

I know you're out there somewhere, Blackbird and Puffin; I don't suppose Frances has made it home from work to enjoy her pasta. Don't worry about Tiddles and the clock -- they've been looked after (even if I can't see what I'm doing, entirely).

Bear is now off to attend to dog.

Sleep well, good Owls.

Re:
Blackbird's Avatar Hi Tiggy- you're such a busy planner but that way, you can relax a little when your family is here. Enjoy your book- I'm falling asleep as soon as I get into bed these days.

And Rob-bear, I was over creating a poll- took me a couple of tries but now I'm off to finish cooking dinner.

A stormy night here with wind and rain but not too cold. I'll be picking up my cans tomorrow.

Sorry to miss you Camilla but I'm glad that you're in bed. And Frances, enjoy your dinner and your rest.

Sweet dreams everyone.

Re:
Frances's Avatar Hello to all you owls,

This was a day off! I took a late afternoon nap, and woke up when the telephone rang ... great friend on the other end. We talked for ... could have been two hours!

As we spoke, I glanced at the tv, whose sound was muted, and realized that there has been a horrible shooting tragedy on a Texas army base. The apparent shooter, who has also be shot, is a trained psychiatrist who did not want to be deployed to the mid east.

This just makes me want to cry on so many levels. What is our world coming to?

My normal report of how I spent this day off, amid errands, house cleaning, gallery visiting, grocery shopping and craft working, either seems totally irrelevant or perhaps very wonderful indeed.

Re:
Puffin's Avatar Hello Frances,
Caring words about this afternoons tragic events.
I agree with you-everything seems to pale when you try to think--Why ?? and the poor family's left behind.
Sorry to have missed you all, just not in the mood to chat.
We are glued to the tele for more news.
