Cowart's Common Room
Operation Christmas child

Like you,our Church has had a shoe box appeal every year though it's usually around harvest time to give some weeks for distribution before Christmas.
This year our project was-- "Mary's Meals And The Back Pack Project".
The vision is that every hungry child receives a daily meal.
Also we were invited to fill up an old recycled/ new school bag or back pack with everyday school things such as : pencils, rulers, pens, erasers, crayons, towel, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, spoon, T Shirt, Flip flops/ Sandals, Skirt/ Dress, Shorts or any suitable clothing.
A donation of 5.30 was collected if wished (this provided a child in Malawi with Mary's Meals for a year). To be honest the recycled back pack was a far better recepticle to hold these goods than trying to stuff them into a shoe box and the back pack was of far more use to the child receiving it.

Camilla's Avatar That is such a wonderful idea with the back pack Silverhead, as you say, the child can use this of a way of holding their things in.

Wonder if this has been brought up before for giving to children in need rather than using a shoe box, I know it is more costly with back pack, but it is ever so more useful for them and one would not mind surely of spending a few bob to send the things in, think one can buy these quite cheaply.
